Thomas Olver is an independent researcher and translator living in South Africa. He studied English, French, German, comparative literature and psychology (University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Zurich) and has lectured in departments of English and comparative literature at universities in South Africa and Switzerland. He favours a collaborative approach to epistemology and his research and teaching interests include gender studies, modern literature, narratology, post-colonialism, psychoanalysis, the history of ideas, and translation. He was guest editor of special issues of The Journal of Literary Studies (“Alternative Modernities in African Literatures and Cultures”) and Current Writing (“Paul Gilroy‘s Black Atlantic”). His most recent publications examine aspects of gender and appear in The Psychoanalytic Review (2019 and 2020).
